Employment Services Specialist (ESS)

Part time and full time positions are available!

Position requirements: 
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Services, Business or related course of study and one year of related experience,
  • or Associates degree program in Human Services, Business or related course of study and two years of related experience
  • or High School diploma with three years of related experience
  • *Driver’s license is required, as well as working vehicle and willingness to drive personal vehicle
Please note: Employment Service Specialists (ESS) working with Job Placement and Supported Employment Services may need additional qualifications, education, training, and/or experience.
Vocational experience or prior work with people with disabilities is preferred.

Responsibilities MAY include:
Career search, building pre-employment skills, and helping to maintain successful continued employment.
  • Coach individuals through career exploration, focusing on employment goals & passions
  • Empower individuals with hard and soft skill-building through hands-on curriculums
  • Enhance socialization and community involvement for individuals through active volunteerism
  • Increase independence by aiding in application, resume, and interview preparations
  • Facilitate supportive employment by helping individuals locate and maintain positions
  • Ensure continued success with on-site job coaching
*You will support individuals at various locations and places of employment throughout the Mohawk Valley.

The position you are applying for requires the employee, after training by Arc Herkimer, to be able to physically assist consumers in walking, standing up, sitting down, and/or toileting and bathing. To do so, employees are required to be able to bend, stoop, sit, stand, and lift. Intermittent but regular, moderate physical exertion will be required in connection with positioning, lifting, transferring, and otherwise assisting individuals.

The employee is also required, with assistance by Arc Herkimer, to obtain and maintain CPR, First Aid, and S.C.I.P (Strategies for Crisis Intervention and Prevention) certifications. The employee is required to be able to physically intervene with a consumer when necessary using approved S.C.I.P. techniques.
